Originally from Colombia, Paula has been a dedicated member of the Telluride Regional Medical Center since 2007, serving in multiple roles throughout her career. She originally joined the medical center as a recent graduate with a degree in marine biology, expecting her role to be temporary while she explored opportunities in her field. Instead, Paula discovered a true calling in health care and steadily advanced—first as a medical interpreter, then as an emergency medical technician, a medical assistant, and eventually into care management.

While working full-time, Paula earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Regis University. In 2016, she became the Primary Care Clinical Practice Manager, leading the department through the COVID-19 pandemic—one of the most challenging periods in modern health care. In early 2023, she chose to return to direct patient care, taking on the role of Chronic Care Manager Nurse, where she provides critical care coordination and Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES) services.

Now, as a certified CDCES and bilingual educator, Paula is expanding access to high-quality, culturally responsive diabetes care—especially for Spanish-speaking and underserved patients in the region. Her work is instrumental in helping patients better manage their condition, reduce complications, and prevent disease progression.

“As a Chronic Care Manager Nurse and bilingual Certified Diabetes Educator, my heart is in helping people feel seen, supported, and capable on their health journey. I’m dedicated to walking alongside each patient—listening to their story, honoring their culture, and offering the knowledge, tools, and encouragement they need to manage their condition and embrace a healthier, fuller life.”

When she is not seeing patients at the clinic, Paula enjoys exploring the outdoors, trail running, camping, hiking, rafting, snowboarding, reading and spending time with her family.
